Beginnings

The Dreamland Villa Arts and Crafts Club was organized by Ken and Marietta Sheets who came to Dreamland from Auburn, Indiana in 1972.  Ken was an artist and also made turquoise and silver jewelry as a hobby, but soon found he was going to need an outlet for his jewelry.  Feeling there must be other artisans in the community faced with the same dilemma, he and Marietta gathered a group of hobbyists together on March 5th, 1976.  Minutes of the organizational meeting dated November 13, 1976 show the name selected for the club was Dreamland Creative Arts Club.  The group established the second Saturday of December, January, February and April from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for their shows.  Bill Yager was elected president, Ken Sheets became vice-president, Linda Brewington was publicity chairman and Gen Reuter was hospitality chairman.  Show coordinator was actually a group of members - Mary Vranak, Amy Smola, Arleen Zoeick and Gen Reuter.  The group also sold donuts, cookies, coffee and tea at the shows.  The shows were held at Farnsworth Hall and included works done by members of Dreamland, some by students in the Art classes.
Many things like dates and times have changed since then, but it still is one of the best and most varied Arts and Crafts Show in the area.
